Recycling food

What you ask? Recycling food? What ever do you mean Brayton?
Well, I’m glad you asked.
breadpudding
This is a batch of bread pudding I made last week.
On Tuesday my school gets bread that is sealed in plastic bags for lunch. Well, some kids don’t want to eat their bread. So it goes uneaten. The bread should be thrown away. However, at the end of the day the bread (or whatever dessert/snack doesn’t get eat) and milk that wasn’t dunk gets brought up to the teachers’ room. So when I was packing up to go home I picked out like 9 small little loaves of this bread. For some time now I had been wanting to try and make bread pudding. When I was working at UMass in the bakery, we would make bread pudding out of stale french bread loaves. I know you can use any kind of bread so I was wondering whether or not I could use this bread. So I decided that on the next bread day I would bring some home. Later that night I took the bags out of their plastic bags and let them sit on the counter to get stale. The next day I made the bread pudding and it turned out pretty well. As you can see I used raisins. I think next time I will try using dates. Also I think next time I will try adding rum. This time around I added in Bailey’s Irish Creme. It turned out okay but I’d like to try it with rum as well. So I’ll let you know how that turns out.

I think tonight I’m going to make some spiced banana date bread. That ALWAYS turns out good.

  • I typed a bunch of stuff in and when I went submit it (it all disappeared). I hope this one works.
I was saying the bread pudding looks very tasty. Did you have a sauce with it. I will look up some Indian Bread Recipes from my New England cookbooks and see if they have one that makes the sauce in it when it cooks. Also, have you tried my recipe for Carrot Cake yet?
I will e-mail you tonight!!! Love Mum
