No. Not berry or fruit cake. WEDDING cake.
That’s right. This weekend Kana and I finally had our wedding party. Friends, colleagues, and some family were called to celebrate. We ate at the illustrious Ristorante Ozawa. Fine Italian dining. For the dessert we elected to have a variety of delights in buffet form. However, since it was a wedding gathering and all, we also decided to have a small cake to cut. Unfortunately it wasn’t a wedding cake like an American would think of a wedding cake. It was more like a shortcake. Here’s what it looked like.

So here Kana and I are getting down to it.

Instead of cutting pieces we were told to just stick our spoons into the cake and pull out a whole bunch.

Well, having never cut a wedding cake before I think we both over did it a little. Both of us pulled up a ridiculous amount of cake. I’m literally surprised the both of us were able to get our spoons into each other’s mouth.

The cake looked awesome. It WAS awesome. It was really good. When they first told me it was going to be like a short cake (really what all cakes are in Japan) I was disappointed. But man it tasted amazing. It was a small cake, so afterward they cut it up and put it on the buffet table. First come first serve. Unfortunately when everyone was going to get dessert, I had to hand out spoons to the guests and do the whole meet and greet type stuff. So I was even able to pick out my own dessert at my own wedding party. Fortunately the owner/manager of the restaurant brought us over some plates of all the desserts. Unfortunately, the plate didn’t include that awesome wedding cake. After all we already had our mouthful. Soooooo unfair.

So these pictures were taken by Brendon. I’m pretty sure the photographer had a better angle on us and we can expect more pictures in about a week. I’ll write more about what it is like getting married from the Japanese perspective in a bit. So long for now.
How do you like my hair mom?
These pics almost made me cry. You guys look so cute! Wish I had been there. Sigh….
Lots of people wish you had been here. Everyone kept asking me if any of my family was coming, especially mom and dad. Unfortunately they will NEVER be coming to Japan. =(
But I’m looking forward to August ;)
you both look fantastic; congrats!
(also, nice shots on brendon’s part!)
Thank you very much Matt. Brendon did take some good pictures.
